The MBE Enterprise
It is a program that certifies a business as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) if the business is at least 51% owned or controlled by historically disadvantaged groups, such as Asian Indians, Asian Pacific, Blacks, Native Americans, or Hispanics. This certification is to help businesses grow, get preferential treatment on contracts and access other resources for growth.
Having MBE certification is useful when competing for government and corporate contracts which are set aside for minority owned businesses. They may also include state/local government contracts and large corporation supplier diversity programs. MBE certification also allows businesses to network through industry events and matchmaking programs, and lists businesses in national supplier databases – which can help attract new clients and partners.
Furthermore, MBE certification provides access to grants, loans and education programs for the minority entrepreneurs. And it adds credibility – many corporations have diversity goals and do prefer certified MBE suppliers.
